Museums:
Gila County has a number of Museums which showcase the area's rich history. Below is a list of each museum. (You can find more information on each, by going to the Business Directory- Museums)

Besh ba Gowah: This museum has been listed as the Top Ten Attractions in the state. It dates to the Salado Culture (1150-140) and is one of the most well preserved archeologial sites in the State. The Museum holds one of the largest single-site archaelogical collections in the State. It is open 7 days a week 9am - 5pm and admission is just $3 for Adults, $2 for Seniors over 65 and FREE for children under 12.

Cobre Valley Center for the Arts: Located in downtown Globe, this landmark building was once the home of judges and lawyers. Built in 1916, it has been restored over the years by a cadre of volunteers, artists and others. It now houses several shops, and a full array of artists, from the local theatrical group, to dance, music and artists. The CVCA hosts art shows and community events and is a main hub of entertainment and information in the area. They are open Mon-Friday 10am - 5pm Sat: 10am-4pm and Sunday noon - 4pm 928-425-0884

Gila County Historical Museum: This museum is a wealth of information and artifacts of the area's early days. Historians Bill and Lynn Haak have been stewards of the Museum for many years and have been instrumental in cataloguing thousands of old photographs and documents. For anyone doing historical research, or who simply want to stroll through the Museums displays this is a great resource.
The Museum also has an array of books relating to the history of the area. The Museum is open 6 days a week 10am - 4pm. Closed on Sundays. Call 928-425-7385 Gila Museum

Historic Gila County Jail and Sheriff's Office: The jail was originally located in the basement of what is now CVCA (see above). However with the lawlessness of those early days the jail was soon over crowed and a new jail was built next door. Completed in 1910 it included a bridge on the 2nd floor to the Courthouse (CVCA) which is still there today. Many attest to the fact that the jail is haunted and just this summer a group from San Diego known for their work in filming the paranormal were in town to investigate a 1911 murder.
The main floor of the jail is used as offices for the Globe Main Street Department, but the jail is open for tours. Call 928-425-9340

San Carlos Cultural Center: The Center was established by the San Carlos Tribe to showcase their origins, history and culture. Directory Herb Stevens is known worldwide for his intricate beadwork and leathercraft, as well as his connections to both traditional Apaches and the Southwest Arts community. Herb is the sole staff member of the center and can't always be at the Center. Therefore it is best to call ahead if you plan to visit. 928-475-2894

Rafting- on The Salt River

Rafting on the Salt RiverArizona's Salt River is the only commercially run class III & IV whitewater raft trip in the Sonoran Desert.  The season typically runs from late March to early May depending on the level of the water.  The Canyon itself has been billed as a miniature Grand Canyon and steep rock walls rise above the river as you wind your way through stunning scenery from lower Sonoran desert vegetation to higher altitude oaks and juniper woodlands.

There are several Rafting companies which work the Salt each year and most offer full and half day trips as well as longer 3 and 5 day trips which take you into the Upper Salt. See:WildernessAwareRafting, MildtoWild, SaltRiverRafting
