First:  You need a FREE app on your mobile phone:

iPhone:  app called Optiscan or QuickMark
Blackberry:  ScanLife
Android Phones:  BarcodeScanner

Once you have a scanner on your phone, you'll see how easy it is to scan these codes. Look for them in your favorite magazine or trade journal, in public places, or store windows...and see how easy and quickly information is fed directly into your smart phone about that business, location, event etc!
