About Grandma Weezy's Attic:



 Owners Larry House and Gene Brass moved to Miami from California four years ago when a friend discovered the town and told them to come look at the old buildings which lined Sullivan Street. They liked what they say, bought the old Wilson's Furniture building and moved the business here where they have expanded their inventory to include Native American, mining and ranching artifacts and antiques from around the world.



The building offers over 3500 sq ft of space and is stuffed to the rafters with the treasures of well-lived lives. The two partners ocassionally buy at estate sales and auctions, but just as often, their unique inventory comes from individual sellers who call them or come into the shop with their family heirloom.





  Just consider the music box crafted in the late 1800's, or the  old camp wagon pantry used in the 1800's which still has the tin containers for spices, a section for grinding coffee and one for sifting flower. The front counter holds trays of old turquoise "pawn" jewelery - exquisite pieces in sterling silver and rich turquoise (many signed), which were traded for other practical goods; lamps designed with Italian glass from the '60's, and armoires, sideboards and area rugs from the early 1900's up. Tucked among the impressive array of truly old, unique one-of-a-kind items, you are also likely to find cookie jars from the 50's, China sets, glassware and rocking chairs of all ages.

The store has both an upper and lower floors and one would miss out on a good deal if they by-pass the second floor. Here you might find an old bird cage from the 1900's, a set of nicely upholstered living room chairs in mint condition or a copper clad espresso machine. Artwork is hung on the walls and stacked against furniture in the aisles. While some it is no more than entertaining or pleasing wall-art (and priced accordingly), many of the pieces are signed originals. There are two pieces which hang over the counter in the front of the store done by artist Howard Somers (1921 - ), an artist who is still alive and lives in Scottsdale. "The Picnic" and "The Carousel" are offered at $1,000 each.
















The name - Grandma Weezy's Attic - came from Larry who named the store after the mother of one of his girlfriends from an earlier time. Seems her mother thought highly of Larry and expected he might make a great son-in-law. While that never panned out, the store's name remained.

And no- the sign out front does not look like the original Grandma Weezy. But it does catch the eye - along with the "French Fry Man." Just look for him on the sidewalk. When he is out - the store is open for business!
