Early symptoms of varicose veins include: pain in the legs with tiredness, restlessness and heaviness in the lower legs, swelling of the ankle and lower leg, discolored, brownish skin near the ankle. A rash or skin ulceration on the ankle or lower leg may also be an indication of varicose veins.

If you are experiencing these symptoms you may be helped with laser vein surgery.



Varicose veins are common and can be painful, unattractive and worsen over time. They can cause legs and feet to swell, create a sense of fatigue or restlessness in leg muscles and throbbing and cramping at night.




Laser Vein Surgery is effective in treating many varicose vein problems and we can do so in less time than it takes to watch a movie. Surgery typically takes anywhere from 45 minutes to one hour and requires only a local anesthetic. The doctor will insert a thin laser fiber into the vein through a very small entry point, and the laser light that emits through this fiber will seal the faulty vein. While you might feel an unfamiliar sensation, it is not painful. You can resume normal activity the same day.

Clinical success is 95% with excellent long term results. Veins that have been treated are very unlikely to become varicose again. Your doctor may recommend additional procedures such as micro-phlebectomy and sclerotherapy to optimize your results.

Dr. Dana Miller, General Surgeon
Dr. Miller earned her Doctor of Medicine from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts in 1994. Dr. Miller completed her Trauma Fellow and Critical Care Fellow at Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C. Dr. Miller has been with Cobre Valley Regional Medical Center since July 2008.


Peter Peifer, PA-C, MS
Peter Peifer graduated with honors at Oregon's Physician Assistant program and was the recipient of the Professional Recognition Award. Peter has over 15 years surgical experience in cardiothoracic and vascular surgery having worked at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona. The past nine years, Peter has been practicing in a vein center that offered minimally invasive treatments including laser ablation and sclerotherapy.
