Gold Canyon to Celebrate ‘Day of the Cowboy’ October 9-10, 2010

(Gold Canyon, AZ, Sept. 5, 2010) - The 3rd Annual “Day of the Cowboy” celebration will take
place this year October 8th & 9th in Gold Canyon, Arizona. The “Day of the Cowboy” event
celebrates the contribution that the American Cowboy has made to this region’s rich Western
history.

The event will kick off with a “Cowboy Up Casino Night” at the Gold Canyon Golf Resort to
benefit Superstition Mountain Museum. The event will start at 6 p.m. and ticket prices will
include roulette, blackjack & other casino games, as well as a Western BBQ buffet dinner, music
and prizes.

A special prize will be awarded to the Best-dressed Cowboy and Cowgirl, so attendees are urged
to wear their Western best. Call 480-671-5512 for ticket information. Free child care & Western
kids’ celebration will be provided for this event, courtesy of Maxwell Preschool. Call 480-430-
3882 to reserve a spot for your child.

On Saturday morning, October 9, Gold Canyon Golf Resort will host a “Round Up” Golf
Tournament to benefit the “100 Club,’ a group that supports families of law enforcement
officers and firefighters when tragedy strikes (www.100club.org). Please call Ryan @ 480-982-

The “Day of the Cowboy Market Place” will run from 9 a.m.–3 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, in
the Basha’s Shopping Plaza at US Highway 60 and Superstition Mountain Drive in Gold Canyon.
Interested artisans and vendors can contact Ray at 480-983-1142.The Gold Canyon Business
Association will sponsor a Chili Tasting Contest at the marketplace. Contact 480-366-5088 for
contest details.

Meanwhile, back at the Gold Canyon Golf Resort, the Mojave Muleskinners will be creating
Western fun from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The resort will also be the location of a artisan/crafter fair
4–8 pm Saturday evening which will include face painting, hot air balloon, reptile zoo, kettle
corn, and Western Photos.

Families are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets on Saturday evening to enjoy a live
Western band sponsored by Salt River Project and a spectacular fireworks display sponsored by
local businesses. Music will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the sky will light up at 8 p.m. sharp. There will
be a Best Dressed Cowboy & Cowgirl contest at 7 p.m., sponsored by Gold Canyon Urgent Care.

A Western BBQ buffet dinner will be available at the resort starting at 5 p.m. Call 480-671-5512

for indoor seating reservations. Lighter fare will also be available at the Snack Shop that evening.

The fireworks display is being made possible thanks to donations from the following sponsors:
SRP, Today Publications, Gold Canyon Golf Resort, Mountain Vista Medical Center, Gold Canyon
Business Association, Gold Canyon Urgent Care, Edward Jones-Matt Ruppert, Shamrock Foods,
Golden Eagle Distributors, Sysco Foods, Maxwell Preschool, Right Away Disposal, and Southwest
Ambulance. Assistance is being provided by the Apache Junction Fire District, and Pinal County.

Some parking will be available at the GCGR with additional event parking available courtesy of
Gold Canyon United Methodist Church (6640 S Kings Ranch Rd.). Free Shuttle Service from 5-9
p.m. by Arizona Value Shuttle.
